I also want 13.2 102MPH literally 100% stock, as the car rolled off the showroom floor. With a healthy clutch I think 12.3 would have been easily doable. Unfortunately, the stock clutch at 53k miles was not pleased on the hit and would slip badly if I got too aggressive out of the hole, so I had to be easy on it with 1.8 60's. I added a little wastegate duty cycle and 1-2º timing up top - didn't even touch the fueling and they run pig rich stock, so very very mild changes. Literally the ONLY modifications were a very mild flash tune (similar to DSMLink - ~$200) and no spare and jack. I went 12.5 108MPH in my 100% mechanically stock/original '99 VR-4 with a pissed off clutch. The 3000gt twins broke and stopped working with even slight modifications, don't you ever get tired of defending this garbage? There was incentive to modifying them, mainly that you could drive them afterwards. The cars that have support have it because they didn't break as soon as you began modifying them. I suppose everyone else is wrong and you're right. Gearboxes would break, awd systems would go nuts, the engines were shit, the electronics had constant issues, there was almost no room in the bay to work in, axles would shatter, brakes would warp, paint would fade, seats would disintegrate, etc etc. The cars you love so much didn't just have one issue, they had dozens of issues. If they weren't such massive heavy pieces of shit (once modified), they would have been as popular as DSM's, Supras, Cobras, FD's even (which are known to be shit for reliability).įunny how you're known throughout the "internet car scene" for being "that guy" that gets buried because you support a dead platform. There were 10x the number of 3000gt's sold as Supras, but they went nowhere. Minimal vendor support, less competition, higher prices, and higher price for the parts because no volume sales. The shops don't support cars that will only be around for a few years, cars that they will be blamed for breaking since they are such pieces of shit, and cars that customers will dump as soon as they realize they aren't worth putting their cash into since so few vendors will support them. Civics and 240's are very modifiable, have a low entry price, have a low maintenance cost, and don't break as soon as they are modified. I think that you (not boostedis) have issues understanding how a business works. Sorry to offend you, but that is not "hatorade" it's personal preference.Ĭlick to expand. The cars that have support have it because they didn't break as soon as you began modifying them. Having said that I'm just not a fan of fast cars looking like their lower level economy offerings. And let's not forget the Starion, I love old school Japanese cars, even Mitsubishi's. Doesn't sound like a negative Mitsubishi viewpoint to me? And contrary to many on this thread, I actually don't mind the 3SI twins either and would of been curious to see what Mitsubishi could of improved had they gone to a second generation. You seem to be assuming quite a bit regarding my views on Mitsubishi too, and I'm hoping you know what happens when you assume things in life? As already mentioned (several times) I like the DSM triplets and wish Mitsubishi had keep up with the original formula. I'm expressing a view and opinion, which some may or may not agree with, not "hatorade" as you've claimed (FYI 37 year old men should not be using the word "hatorade"). And while everybody here really appreciates you ensuring my so called slight does not go unchallenged, and the EVO name remain untarnished, the only misunderstanding occurring here is being made by you sir, not me. I'm not knocking it's performance (which is decent) or what they accomplished rallying it, so no need to try to justify those achievements to me with history lessons. It doesn't matter how bright they were able to polish the paint afterwards, it's still based on an economy car. Explain it however you want, the fact remains whatever Mitsubishi's intent or goal (and I'll try to be as pleasant about how I say this since it seems to offend you), they are made from the Lancer's platform which is an economy based offering.
